Thanks to generous financial aid, the brightest can afford to enroll here, regardless of background: fifty-three percent of students receive need-based assistance. Each year we update and expand financial aid, ensuring that the leaders of tomorrow can participate in all the opportunities Yale offers today.

Yale College Funding Gap
Each year, the endowment payout covers just a portion of Yale’s spending on Yale College scholarships. In 2025 the financial aid budget for Yale College is $270.5 million. Funding from the endowment supplies $132 million, leaving a gap of $138.5 million—funds that must be drawn from the university’s operating budget.

Yale College awards more than $255.2 million each year in need-based aid, with an average yearly scholarship of $67,573. Families earning less than $75,000 are not expected to contribute to the cost of their child’s education.
Our commitment to meeting the full demonstrated need of every admitted student allows undergraduates to fund their education without relying on excessive student loans.
