Susan Gibbons was appointed vice provost for collections & scholarly communication in July 2019. She served as Yale’s University Librarian from 2011 to 2020 and began a secondary assignment to the Provost’s office in 2015. As Vice Provost she focuses on further connecting Yale’s world-class collections with its mission of education, research, preservation, and practice. Her portfolio of responsibilities includes the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, the Paul Mellon Centre, Yale University Art Gallery, Yale Center for British Art, Yale Peabody Museum, Yale University Library and Yale University Press.  In addition, she serves as Chief of Staff to President Peter Salovey.

Gibbons holds MLS and MA degrees in history from Indiana University, a professional MBA from the University of Massachusetts, and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Rochester. Prior to Yale, she held library positions at Indiana University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and the University of Rochester. She served on the board of the Association of Research Libraries from 2013-20 and as the board president in 2018-19.
