A Yale scholarship is a special honor that reflects the university’s esteem for students’ past and present achievements, as well as their potential as members of the Yale community. Yale’s need-based financial aid program relies on the support of the more than 1,500 scholarship funds that have been established by generous alumni and friends through the years. If you have been selected as a beneficiary of one of these valued resources, we ask that you please write a note to the individual listed in the award letter to share a bit about your time at Yale.
What should I write about?
Write about yourself and your time at Yale. Here are some questions to help you get started:
- Include your contact information (email and phone number)
- Why did you choose Yale?
- What has been your favorite class?
- Where is your favorite place on campus?
- What is your most meaningful extracurricular activity?
- What are your academic interests?
- What have you done during the summers, or what do you plan to do this summer?
- What do you hope to do during your time at Yale and in the long term?
What if I wrote a note for the same scholarship last year?
Please write a new letter this year focusing on any updates. Donors and their families enjoy hearing from you every year and learning about your recent experiences on campus, updates to your studies and interests, new research endeavors, etc.
