Jean Wood ’64 MAR and her son Chris Wood ’90 have pledged to create ten annual scholarships for Yale Divinity School (YDS) students pursuing social justice. Their gift stems from a strong family commitment to social justice and Christian education.

“I’m hoping for a just society,” Jean says. “That’s going to take leadership from Yale Divinity School students. And whatever I can do to enhance that, I’m happy to do it. I just know I was a different person after attending Yale Divinity School.”

Jean has fond memories of her family life revolving around their church and service to the community. She continued this tradition after meeting her future husband, graduating from Syracuse University, and attending YDS. At the nexus of Christian service, education, and social justice, Jean served on school boards, led volunteer tutoring programs and nature camps, and was a founding board member of Habitat for Humanity in Buffalo.
