Beckenstein Gift Supports Pathways to Careers in Climate

With a gift from Anita and Joshua Bekenstein ’80, the Yale School of the Environment will establish a program to help students across the university pursue careers in climate leadership.

The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) has established the Bekenstein Climate Leaders Program to meet the growing demand for environmental leaders and accelerate the pace and scope of climate change mitigation.

Created with a gift from Anita and Joshua Bekenstein ’80, the Bekenstein Climate Leaders Program will offer scholarships, internship stipends, and post-graduate initiatives to expand number of Yale graduates confronting the climate crisis. The gift is the largest in YSE’s history.

“Climate change is an existential threat to our beautiful planet,” says Anita Bekenstein on behalf of the couple. “It is critical that we implement solutions at speed and scale. We are proud to partner with Yale University and YSE to help increase the number of passionate young climate leaders who will help solve the climate crisis to secure a healthy planet and better future for us all.”
