Abner Olivares ’23

Abner Olivares, a Boyle Heights native and Yale University graduate, is deeply committed to public service and leadership. Now, as a California Executive Fellow, he brings with him a wealth of experience gained from roles in the White House, Congress, and the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office.

While at Yale, Olivares served as a first-year counselor, where he dedicated himself to guiding first-year students both academically and personally. Additionally, in his role as a career fellow at the Jackson School for Global Affairs, he played a key part in developing career programs and connecting students with valuable opportunities in public service.

In 2022, Olivares’s dedication was further recognized when he was named one of the inaugural recipients of the Obama Foundation’s Voyager Scholarship for Public Service. That same year, he also earned the distinction of being a California State Finalist for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Program.

Olivares is an alumnus of several distinguished programs, including the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Harvard Kennedy School’s Public Policy Leadership Conference, PPIA, and LEDA. Throughout his career, he remains driven by a passion for creating equitable policies and making a meaningful impact through his work in government and public service.
