During the For Humanity campaign, alumni, parents, and friends contributed more than $1.77 billion for scientific endeavors. These funds are helping to bring rising and established stars to Yale; create new programs and centers; and build new laboratory and teaching facilities, all with the same goal—to create knowledge and develop solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.
A New Era
Yale Engineering Expands into a New Home
With the support of donors, Yale has committed to a major expansion of its School of Engineering & Applied Science: thirty new faculty positions, autonomy in its management structure, and an expanded and revitalized campus in the lower Hillhouse Avenue area.
Through my experiences as an undergraduate, professional paleontologist, and Peabody campaign representative, I am awed by how the new Peabody Museum transforms Yale’s ability to train future scientists and engage broad audiences.
Not only are there world-class faculty and top-tier mentorship at Yale, but we are afforded state of the art facilities and technology that really help to promote groundbreaking research.
With campaign funding, the Graduate School and the Yale Institute for Foundations of Data Science launched a fellows program for scholars working in interdisciplinary data science fields. The program facilitates the serendipitous exchange of ideas that can underpin breakthrough discoveries.

In February 2021, Yale announced that a historic gift from Joseph C. Tsai ’86, ’90 JD and Clara Wu Tsai would launch an ambitious new research enterprise devoted to the study of human cognition. Opened in 2023, the Wu Tsai Institute dramatically advanced Yale’s neuroscience initiative.

The Institute for Foundations of Data Science, founded thanks to a gift from James Attwood, Jr. ’80, ’80 MA, serves as a university-wide hub for collaboration in this rapidly growing, interdisciplinary field, with a core mission to strengthen Yale’s expertise in data science’s mathematical, algorithmic, and statistical foundations.

A $100 million gift from FedEx helped fund a new center focused on developing natural solutions for reducing atmospheric carbon. The Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture supports and accelerates research across academic disciplines, helping to establish a more sustainable and healthier future for our planet.
