New Endowed Fund to Support Korean Studies at MacMillan Center

A new commitment will advance research and teaching across Korean Studies at Yale, based at the Yale MacMillan Center for International & Area Studies.

South Korean violinist Hyung Joon Won has donated $100,000 to establish an endowed fund for the benefit of Korean Studies at Yale. The gift will deepen Yale’s capacity to focus on ancient Korean history and contemporary North Korea.

“This generous gift, along with the future participation of more like-minded supporters, will greatly advance the development of ancient Korean studies and help scholars and students from North and South Korea, as well as the United States, seek peace through academic and cultural exchange,” says Hwansoo Kim, professor of religious studies and a Korean Studies scholar.
